Weymouth Local Area

The Weymouth experience

Weymouth has lots to offer people of all ages, with its lovely beaches and safe bathing, the interesting and individual shops and Brewers Quay centre, the bustling harbour with the road bridge which is raised several times each day for tall ships to pass through to the busy marina and the many events that take place throughout the year in and around Weymouth.

Weymouth sits along the Jurassic coastline, offering interesting and varied walking and activities such as fossil hunting, sailing and diving, wind and kite surfing. Areas of interest nearby include Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Chesil beach and the Ilse of Portland. Local attractions include two RSPB nature reserves, Sea Life centre, fishing and boats trips, Abbotsbury Gardens and Swannery, Monkey World, Nothe Forte, golf courses and of course the Old Harbour and Marina areas. Whilst here you can use various transport options such as the Jurassic Coast bus, which follows the beautiful coastline to Exeter or the land train which runs past The Beach House along the promenade from Greenhill Gardens to the King's Statue.

There is a range of nightlife for those who want it including a large selection of restaurants and wine bars plus The Pavilion Theatre, a 9-screen cinema and 10 pin bowling.

You can also take a day trip to the Channel Islands and sail to St. Malo from Weymouth.

Weymouth and Portland are hosts to the 2012 sailing Olympics and we anticipate exciting new developments around the local area.
